Ready for basketball season.

Image
You may know that I'm an avid Celtics fan. This might be surprising. It sure is to me. My obsession started when we finally had the necessary ingredients to start wasting large amounts of time, a television and cable. Jevan was living with us at the time, and he had enjoyed watching and playing a bit of ball growing up. I on the other hand, had maybe picked up a basketball a dozen time. And I'm not...how do you say it...graceful, coordinated, quick, or pretty much any other adjective that would describe an athlete. This was 2007. The Celtics picked up Ray Allen and most importantly, Kevin Garnett. With Rajon Rondo* coming into his own and Paul Pierce at the pinnacle of his career, the machine was operating smoothly. So smoothly in fact, that someone like myself, a complete newbie to basketball, knew this was teamwork and precision at its finest. I guess I just realized that I really like the non-sport sport photos. I like the layers in the photo and I feel like it actua...

Bela Fleck - Twice in a Week!

Image
Update: Yes, I know that's not Bela. But it's my favorite pic of the set. Richie Stearns. So, I had been looking forward to the Bela Fleck Banjo Summit for a while, and it did not disappoint. We went to the Paramount Theater in Rutland, an hour away, and saw some of the best music ever. The format was great too, because the musicians and the styles of music changed almost every song, so it never got dull. Richie Stearns has a really interesting voice. When I saw him last, it was at another banjo summit at the Egg in Albany, NY. He sang a song about the twin towers and going into Iraq, that left an imprint. He plays clawhammer, but puts it through effects pedals and makes some crazy good noise. Bela Fleck and his wife Abigail Washburn. She has a great voice and can sing in many styles, and Bela, well, if you've seen him before, you know. On this stage stood about half of the most famous banjo players ever. Bela Fleck is a pure genius, and I think most would ...

Best Camera Deal Ever! - Nikon V1 Two Lens Kit

Image
The Nikon V1 with the 10-30mm and 30-110mm lenses is on sale for $399! I thought I'd start off by saying that I don't have the Nikon V1. I'm also not an affiliate of any store (yet), so links are for your benefit only. I do however read incessantly about cameras, and "virtual shop" way too often.  SO CHECK THIS OUT!!! At B&H, and other retailers, you can get the Nikon 1 V1 camera, with the 10-30mm and 30-110mm (27-81, 81-297 35mm equivalent) lenses for $399.95 !! Anyways, if you're not familiar with the Nikon 1 system , here's what it's about: It's the smallest sensor, at 1" diagonal, of any mirrorless system on the market (with the exception of the Pentax Q, which you're better off ignoring) It has a hybrid autofocus system of phase detection and contrast detection. This boils down to the best autofocus for action of any mirrorless system, and performs as well as many high end dslrs. The lenses are tiny. Small and light. V...
