My plow guy is nine years old & Pico + Powder = :-)



Maurice plows the 8-10" of new snow from our driveway so that I can get out early tomorrow morning for some fresh turns. Gotta love a nine year old plow guy who comes to work with a smile!
Maurice, my awesome nine year old neighbor does a fantastic job plowing our driveway with his little John Deer tractor.

Well, we finally got our first snow storm. (In fact, it pretty much was our first winter snow storm here in almost two years!)

Dave drops a knee on one of our many fresh runs this morning at Pico Mountain.
Dave and I got out to Pico this morning. Unfortunately the summit quad was closed due to wind (although I understand it opened for an hour at the end of the day) but we were able to make a number of quick hikes over to the trails off of the Outpost lift and were skiing multiple runs of 10"-14" of untouched pow.


What a great day. Still deciding where to head tomorrow.

True's Ledges in West Lebanon

It's nice to discover a cool waterfall, or series of small cascades and nice swim holes, only a half mile out of the way on the trip back home from work. A locals' favorite, I haven't been here since I was a student, a long long time ago. Playing with an ultrawide lens has been a liberating experience. I'm just glad I didn't liberate my camera down the falls. By using a three stop neutral density filter, I was able to keep my aperture at f/11, maintaining a massive depth of field but eliminating the effect of diffraction when using even smaller apertures. A benefit of low water flow is the ability to get shots that would otherwise be too dangerous. The parking is just off True's Brook Road, 0.8 miles from the junction with NH route 12A just south of the "strip." Water is pretty low right now, but it's still very beautiful and the pools are warm and deep enough for a solid dip in just the right spot. Low water also allows me to explore the r

Pinhoti 100 Race Report (and video)

Although it was a few weeks ago now, the Pinhoti 100 already feels like it happened ages ago. It was an amazing experience, and it confirmed to me that I can finish a 100-miler with a solid, but minimal base of fitness. It also reminded me how much I love 100-milers.   Note about the video. I’m not a videographer and I shot this while running a race, so cut me some slack. This is not meant to be a guide or a quick synopsis of the race, but more of an abbreviated journey, and a journaling for posterity, as much for myself as for others. In the moment, a one hundred mile race seems endless, yet soon after, the power of the experience fades, until it is just another memory. Maybe this video will inspire, inform or entertain you. Maybe you’ll be bored.
